Facial reconstructions displayed to help identify deceased
Edmonton... Alberta's Chief Medical Examiner released facial reconstructions and sketches of two deceased individuals found at separate times last summer.
"We hope that by releasing this information members of the public will recognize these individuals and be able to provide information on who they are and the circumstances surrounding their deaths," said Dr. Graeme Dowling, Alberta's Chief Medical Examiner.
The body of an adult male was found June 6, 2004 east of the Walterdale Bridge in Edmonton on the south side of the North Saskatchewan River. No clothing or valuables were on the body. The man was approximately 30 to 40 years of age and had a tattoo of a skull wearing a pirate's hat on the right arm midway between the shoulder and the elbow.
The body of a second adult male was found July 4, 2004 on the south bank of the North Saskatchewan River north of Hairy Hill, Alberta. The man's age was estimated to be between 40 and 50 years.
"In these types of cases we are challenged as to how to find out who these people are and why they died. We rely on and work with the media to get this information out to Albertans," said Ron Stevens, Minister of Justice and Attorney General. "Without the media, it would be far more difficult for us to get this information out to the public."
Anyone with information about either of these individuals is asked to contact the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner at (780) 427-4987 and provide any information they can on the identities.
When a death occurs suddenly or cannot be explained, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducts an investigation. All such deaths in Alberta are investigated under the authority of the Fatality Inquiries Act. The investigation is held to determine who died, where, when, why and how they died.
