New Assistant Chief Judge named for Edmonton Family and Youth court
Edmonton... Judge Jack Easton has been named as the new Assistant Chief Judge of the Provincial Court of Alberta for Edmonton Family and Youth. He will take over from Judge Janet Franklin, effective August 1.
Judge Franklin has served as Assistant Chief Judge for a term of five years. She will continue to serve on the Provincial Court after her term expires on July 31.
"I would like to thank Judge Franklin for her commitment and service to the families who have appeared before her and to the community," said Ron Stevens, Minister of Justice and Attorney General. "As a popular speaker for groups interested in learning about the justice system, she is an excellent advocate. I am pleased the Provincial Court will continue to benefit from her years of experience."
Minister Stevens went on to offer his congratulations to Judge Easton. "I welcome Judge Easton to his new role. He has been an asset to the court since his appointment and I know he will continue to serve with distinction. His years of experience in this division of the Provincial Court will be an advantage to him as Assistant Chief Judge."
Judge Easton was appointed to the bench in 1995. He graduated from the University of Alberta law school in 1969 and spent many years practicing in commercial law. He has served in Family and Youth court since his appointment.
