Facial reconstruction leads to identification of missing man
Edmonton... Facial reconstructions released by the Chief Medical Examiner have resulted in the identification of one man found near Hairy Hill, Alberta in 2004.
Tips came in to the Medical Examiner's Office after photos of the reconstructions were released to the media. These tips led investigators to the man's family. DNA tests confirmed the identity of a 42-year-old man of Edmonton. His name is being withheld at the request of his family. The cause of death may be due to drowning, however, after completion of all tests and investigations, the Medical Examiner's Office remains unable to confirm this.
"I would like to thank the media for their contribution to making this identification," said Chief Medical Examiner, Dr. Graeme Dowling. "Without the media's involvement, it would have been far more difficult for us to get this information out to the public."
In May, the Medical Examiner released facial reconstructions made from the skulls of two unidentified men with the hope members of the public would recognize the individuals, and be able to provide information on who they were and the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
One man remains unidentified. Photos of the reconstructions can be viewed at
