Fatality inquiry listing for February 2007

Edmonton...Public inquiries held under the Fatality Inquiries Act are limited to establishing the cause, manner, time, place and circumstances of death, as well as the identity of the deceased. The judge may make recommendations on the prevention of similar occurrences but is prohibited, under the act, from making findings of legal responsibility.

On September 28, 2005, L.S. was being transported to his home in Spruce Grove when he attempted to jump from the moving vehicle but was prevented. When the vehicle was stopped he ran onto the highway and was hit by a truck.

Charles Wula was found drowned in the North Saskatchewan River on July 24, 2005. On July 17, 2005, he was involved in a foot chase with police. He escaped by entering the river and was visually followed for about one kilometer before officers lost sight of him. Continuation.

 

* Please note that this is a pre-inquiry conference. The inquiry is scheduled for May 8-9, 2007.

Pre-inquiry conferences are held before a fatality inquiry begins. They are intended to ensure that all parties understand the purposes of the inquiry, what issues will be explored, and what procedures will be followed. No witnesses are called and no evidence is introduced.
