Fatality inquiry listing for August 2007

Edmonton... Public inquiries held under the Fatality Inquiries Act are limited to establishing the cause, manner, time, place and circumstances of death, as well as the identity of the deceased. The judge may make recommendations on the prevention of similar occurrences but is prohibited, under the act, from making findings of legal responsibility.

Medicine Hat

On October 28, 2005, Francis McPike was found unresponsive in his cell. He was transported to hospital where he died on October 31, 2005. Inquiry October 12.

Edmonton

 

August 16

PERRY, Ronald Ashley, 28, Edmonton

Judge F.E. LeReverend

On March 19, 2004, Ronald Perry was arrested for strange and violent behaviour. In an effort to restrain him he was electronically stunned by police. He was transported to hospital where he suffered cardiac arrest and died on March 23, 2004. Continuation.

Calgary

On November 11, 2004, Carrie Rivait was found unresponsive at a private residence while on statutory release.

Didsbury

On May 20, 2006, Jordon Neave was found unresponsive in a public swimming pool. Inquiry February 27-29, 2008.

Calgary

TRENTON, Dale, 40, Drumheller Correctional Institution

On March 18, 2006, Dale Trenton was found unresponsive in the outdoor courtyard of the Drumheller Correctional Institution. He was transported to hospital where he later died. Inquiry October 30 in Drumheller.

They are intended to ensure that all parties understand the purposes of the inquiry, what issues will be explored, and what procedures will be followed. No witnesses are called and no evidence is introduced but the hearings are open to the public and the media.
