“Today, many Albertans and people around the world celebrate the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Despite the efforts of individuals and organizations around the globe, racism and racial discrimination are still issues being dealt with across the world.

“In Alberta, there is simply no place for racial discrimination. As we continue to welcome thousands of people from different backgrounds and cultures, we remain focused on fostering an inclusive province. We are doing this by supporting grassroots anti-racism initiatives through the Anti-Racism Grant, as well as taking action to implement the recommendations outlined in the Alberta Anti-Racism Action Plan, where 26 actions have already been completed across 25 ministries.

“We have also created several advisory councils like the Alberta Anti-Racism Advisory Council, Premier’s Council on Multiculturalism, and the newly inaugurated Alberta Black Advisory Council, to further guide our work towards an inclusive and diverse Alberta.

“I encourage all Albertans to raise their voices, to speak out against acts of racial discrimination, and to support others who have stories to tell. Together, our actions will lead to a truly diverse, inclusive and vibrant province.”
