The Provincial Archives of Alberta is hosting a number of special events in celebration of Archives Week.

Mental Illness Awareness Week
Seniors’ mental health is a key focus of Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) 2008 and Alberta Health Services (AHS) will mark this week with events and interactive displays in local health facilities.
During MIAW, AHS will release a booklet called Mindful Aging. This new resource provides seniors with many practical suggestions on healthy living for older adults and ways to approach aging during this transition period of their lives.
Fire Prevention Week
This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme, Prevent Home Fires!, focuses on what many Albertans consider the bedrock of their lives -- their homes and their families.

Waste Reduction Week, October 19 to 25, encourages governments, schools, businesses, organizations and individuals to examine their consumption habits and boost efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle.

Responsible Gambling Awareness Week
The Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission, in conjunction with the Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission and the gambling industry, announces Alberta’s second annual Responsible Gambling Awareness Week (RGAW), October 20 – 26.
With the theme Play Smart. Gamble Responsibly., Responsible Gambling Awareness Week provides gamblers with the information they need to make decisions that result in responsible gambling behaviour and increases awareness of the programs undertaken by the government and the industry in support of responsible gambling and the prevention of problem gambling.
Events for the week include:
- Open Houses at the Responsible Gambling Information Centres located in 13 casinos and Northlands Racing Entertainment Centre
- Prevention of Problem Gambling presentation at the University of Calgary, by Dr. Robert Williams
