“The U.S. remains our largest trading partner and we need to continually build on this mutually beneficial relationship,” said Premier Redford. “Like Alberta, the U.S. Midwest is home to a thriving natural resource sector that plays a critical role on both sides of the border.”

In Toronto, Premier Redford, along with New Brunswick Premier David Alward and Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger, will chair a Council of the Federation meeting of provincial and territorial Finance Ministers. This Fiscal Arrangements Working Group will discuss options for modernizing federal transfers to protect and sustain Canadians’ essential public services, including health care, education, and social services.

In Chicago, Premier Redford will meet with a diverse set of stakeholders and deliver remarks at a Chicago Council on Global Affairs meeting. The Premier will also meet with the Consulate General of Canada in Chicago, Gitane De Silva; local business leaders; organized labour groups; and the Deputy Mayor of Chicago, Steve Koch.

During her discussions in Chicago, the Premier will also outline Alberta’s commitment to responsible energy production and efforts to expand trade and investment with the region.

“We look forward to welcoming Premier Redford to the Chicago Council’s platform to discuss issues of energy, trade, and the evolution of U.S.-Canada relations with leading corporate and civic leaders in Chicago,” said Rachel Bronson, vice president of studies for the Chicago Council on Global Affairs.
